Appendiceal cancer is rare, accounting for less than 0.4% of all intestinal neoplasms. Pseudomyxoma peritonei was first described by Werth in 1884 in association with a benign ovarian cystadenoma. The term pseudomyxoma peritonei is now used to describe a low-grade mucinous neoplasm of gastrointestinal or ovarian origin. Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a slowly progressive and often recurring disease that characteristically spreads not through blood or lymphatic vessels but through diffuse peritoneal extension (3). We describe a unique case of pseudomyxoma peritonei presenting 5 years after appendectomy. This case also demonstrates the importance of antibiotic treatment in managing a complication of gastrointestinal cancer.
