Mental reactions in puberal girls during gynecological examination

Psychological examination of puberal girls was carried out in order to determine whether gynaecological examination awakened or intensified sexual interest, whether it caused psychological trauma, and the degree of knowledge of those sexual matters which adolescent girls should be aware of. The examination was carried out at the Third Gynaecological Hospital; the control group was taken from the girls attending the secondary school in Jarov, Prague. It appears that when care is exercised gynaecological examination does not cause any trauma, nor does it either awaken or intensify sexual interest. It also appears that adolescent girls are insufficiently informed on sexual matters, mainly because their mothers are not capadle of preparing them for life. A practical conclusion can he drawn: that the mothers of adolescent girls should - first be instructed themselves.
