Characteristics of impulse (neodymium) and continuous (carboxylic acid) lasers are given. In humans treated with laser irradiation for skin cancer (1st and 2nd stages), nonmalignant tumors and pretumor pathologies, relapses, metastases or other complications had not occurred after 5 yr. Metastases after 5 yr in 18% of laser-irradiated melanoblastoma cases were attributed to the spread of malignant cells before the beginning of treatment. The advantages of laser treatment over surgery and other types of irradiation and the absence of disfigurement and general body reaction, speed of treatment which may reduce the chances of metastasis from the original focus and the psychological effect of treatment without anesthesia.
