Determination of chloramphenicol and vitamin C in drug combinations using gas chromatography and non-aqueous titrimetry

A gas chromatography method involving transformation into trimethylsilyl derivatives and a non-aqueous titration method using tetra-n-butylammonium hydroxide as a titrant were demonstrated. These methods provided quick and accurate techniques for determining levels of chloramphenicol and vitamin C in pharmaceutical preparations and do not require the isolation of the ingredients from the preparation. The presence of excipients used in capsules and tablets does not interfere with the processes.
