Sera from 55 volunteers who had been infected with Plasmodium vivax were examined for malarial antibodies. The indirect fluorescent antibody test (using P. vivax antigen) become positive in all cases, being highest 11 to 20 days after infection. The indirect haemagglutination test using P. knowlesi antigen became positive in only 50% during or after the primary attack, being highest at 11 to 30 days after infection. The longer the primary parasitaemia was allowed to continue without treatment, the more frequent the indirect haemagglutinin response. After relapses, both tests gave responses at high titres.
