Rates of lymph flow in cats were measured by calculating the disappearance of radio-active colloidal gold (Au198) from the feet of uninfected cats, cats which received a single infection of Brugia pahangi, and cats which received repeated infections of B. pahangi. The results showed that there was great variation in gold disappearance rates in different cats in the 3 groups, that the cat lymphatic system is functionally highly efficient and that there was a significant impairment of gold removal from the affected foot of a cat with lymphoedema and early elephantiasis. The lack of any pattern of lymph flow decrease obviated the use of the technique in the diagnosis of lymphatic pathology before the appearance of clinical signs of filariasis. [AS].
