Of 91 Danish medical students aged >20 yr, 4 had lactose malabsorption after intake of 100 g lactose. The incidence was not different from that found in previous Danish studies of patients with gastrointestinal disorders, but patients with irritable colon had significantly greater incidence of lactose malabsorption.
