Effect on the liver of the antihelminthic preparation trichlorophen as compared with dichlorophen. Experimental data

A possible influence of trichlorophen on the protein-forming, antitoxic, urea-forming, enzymatic and exocrine functions of the liver was studied experimentally in rats, guinea pigs and rabbits in comparison with dichlorophen. Trichlorophen in doses of 0.5 g and 1 g/kg administered for 5-10 days exerted some hepatotropic effect manifested in slight changes of values associated with liver protein metabolism and its enzymatic and exocrine functions: reduced activity of serum cholinesterase, increased activity of asparagine transferase, reduced amounts of cholic acids excreted in bile. The influence of trichlorophen on the functional state of the liver is weaker than that of dichlorophen.
