In an outbreak of poxvirus infection in Felidae at the Moscow Zoo in 1973/74, all of six cases of the pulmonary form died 3-8 days after the onset of symptoms, displaying P.M. ser-fibrinous bronchopneumonia with exudate into the pleural cavity (but no skin lesions). One of seven cases of the dermal form died. Two anteaters also died from the dermal form. Virus strains isolated from pulmonary and dermal forms were indistinguishable from cowpox virus.
