Intraventricular and subarachnoid injections made in CSF gave the highest levels of radioactivity, but with the intraventricular route the homogeneity was quite unsatisfactory. The system of multiple tissue injections appeared to be completely unsuitable because of the remarkably uneven distribution of the label. The subarachnoid route of administration of [3H]orotic acid, as a precursor of RNA, appeared to be the best because it ensures adequacy of label uptake and homogeneity of its distribution.
