Dormancy was broken in sugar beet roots by cutting the tissue into sections which were then maintained at optimum temperature. At different stages of tissue ageing particularly during the 1st 18 h, distinct changes occurred in the types of RNA synthesized, while certain RNA species were produced throughout the whole period of tissue development. It was suggested that the change in the degree of RNA heterogeneity was due to the synthesis of different mRNA and/or specific nuclear RNAs.
