A year's statistics from the Committee on Infections of The Mountainside Hospital are presented. Of 13,156 patients admitted in the year, 322 (or 2/a per cent) had reportable infections. Those who had infection present on admission comprised 68 per cent of the total, while 32 per cent developed infection after admission. Communicable diseases, post-operative wound infections, and other pyogenic infections are tabulated and analyzed. Infection rates in various hospital departments are compared and the temporal incidence of infection is noted graphically. Bacteriologic data is presented and the staphylococcal problem considered.
