Development of pectinate ligament structure of the dog: study by scanning electron microscopy

Scanning electron microscopy was used to study development of the pectinate ligament of the iridocorneal angle in canine foetuses with crown-rump lengths of 65 to 175 mm and in pups from 3 hours to 28 days of age. The pectinate ligament appeared to arise from the organization and the rarefaction of a layer of numerous fibrils that were elaborated in front of a sheet of cells continuous with the corneal and iridic endothelium. Adhesions of the iris to the periphery of the cornea appeared frequently throughout development.
