EM study of the olfactory epithelium goblet cells in fishes [Coregonus autumnalis, Lucioperca lucioperca] showed the ultrastructural diversity of the secretion. The secretion of the small secretory cells was similar to a lipoprotein. The slime covering the olfactory epithelium consists of mucopolysaccharides and lipoproteins. The secretion of different types of secretory cells may form complexes on the surface of the epithelium which transport molecules of odorous substances to the receptor membrane.
