Virucidal effect of disinfectants in the suspension test

Eighteen disinfectants were tested against viruses of various types in the suspension test. Viruses without envelope were much more resistant than enveloped viruses. Generally all disinfectants were virucidal against enveloped viruses at usual concentrations; the presence of protein decreased the efficacy of disinfectants, especially phenol and surface-active compounds; the most resistant viruses were representatives of the paramyxo, rhabdo and pox groups. Most disinfectants were not sufficiently active against naked viruses; only halogen or aldehyde compounds had a certain activity; enteroviruses and adenoviruses were extremely resistant.
