Rats given for 2 months with their diet allyl propyl disulphide, isolated from the common onion, had significantly lower concentrations of lipids in serum and liver than controls given water. The lipid-lowering effect was more pronounced in the liver. Blood protein and sugar were similar in the 2 groups. A mechanism of action of the disulphide is suggested.
