Hepatic xanthine dehydrogenase activity and plasma uric acid concentrations of chicks with lymphoid tumor-induced anemia

Associated with tumour growth in the chick-TLT transplantable lymphoid tumour model (VB. 43, abst. 835) was a 1.6-fold increase in weight of liver which was not attributable to infiltration by neoplastic cells, an increased activity of xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) per gram of liver which seemed related to duration of tumour growth, and a twofold increase in total XDH activity (units/100 g of body weight). Plasma uric acid concentrations of the implanted chicks and control chicks were similar and indicated that the anaemia in the chick-TLT model was not associated with azotaemia.
