Neuritic leprosy which is a defined type of leprosy is not uncommon, at least in some parts of the world and should be diagnosed wherever there is nerve thickening and associated nerve deficit only i.e., even in the absence of other cardinal signs such as patch and AFB in the skin smear. It appears that in a proportion of patients. neuritic leprosy evolves into typical spectral disease. There is a need to critically review the subjects from treatment point of view as these patients have a rather large but hidden load of bacilli, irrespective of the fact whether only one or more than one nerve is affected.
