In skin tests on 1611 men and 430 women in 4 institutions, an overall prevalence of 22% was noted (26% of the men and 13% of the women). The ratio was lower in men <24 yr old than in men >24; over 30 there was no difference in the ratio for men or women. The frequency distribution of reaction sizes showed very few results of 1-6 mm of induration indicating little cross-reaction to histoplasmin among this population. The results indicate that histoplasmin sensitivity is less prevalent in Puerto Rico than in C. America and mid-Western USA, but more prevalent than in most other areas in which it has been measured.
