Efficiency studies on vaccines against Marek's disease, based on turkey herpes virus against the Marek disease

A total of nine deep-frozen and six freeze-dried vaccines, prepared from strain FC126 turkey herpesvirus, were tested, using 1051 chicks of varying susceptibility to MD virus. The deep-frozen vaccines gave a 1:3 protection rate against i/m challenge with virulent HPRS-16 MD virus, when they had a virus content of 103.7 TCID50 per dose. Lyophilized vaccine gave the 1:3 protection rate at a dose of 103.0 TCID50. A dose-dependent response was obtained, in spite of the varying chick susceptibility to the vaccine virus.
