The DNA and RNA content of cells of fungal infected skin increase due to increased mitotic division and nucleoprotein synthesis inside cells. Griseofulvin with or without vitamin A checks this rapid mitotic division. These combinations also enhance the mucopolysaccharide content of the cells in the granular layer of fungal infected skin. The therapeutic response of griseofulvin with vitamin A is more effective than griseofulvin alone because griseofulvin binding to mucopolysaccharides increases more with griseofulvin and vitamin A than with griseofulvin alone. Therefore the conc. of griseofulvin in skin increases and gives better results with lower doses of drug.
