Positive results were 2.6 times more frequent in faecal examinations for Trichuris ova by native smear on slides 6 X 9 and 9 X 12 under a binocular stereoscopic microscope than by conventional methods. When compared with other flotation methods, 2.5 g of faeces in a saturated solution of ammonium nitrate, examined directly in the cup under a binocular stereoscopic microscope also gave quicker and more frequently positive results with many species of helminth ova.
