The usual profilerative response induced by the addition of phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) to normal bovine lymphocytes cultured in medium containing bovine foetal serum was depressed by the addition of bovine viral diarrhoea virus. The inhibitory effect appears to be related to the viability of the virus. When heat-killed or ultraviolet-irradiated virus was used, depression did not occur.
