Examination of urine samples from 28 cattle suspected of botulism showed the presence of protein in all, glucose in 20 and indican in 23. All three components were present in 17 samples, protein and indican in 23 and protein and glucose were present together in 20; two samples only protein was detected. In the urine samples of 15 control cattle, protein was present in two and indican in one; glucose was not detected in any. The presence of these constituents in urine could be used to support a tentative diagnosis of botulism.
