Abnormally warm weather in the winter and beginning of spring in the Rostov region, south Russia, resulted in a large-scale multiplication of field mouse [Microtus arvalis] and gregarious mouse. Cold and rainy weather during May-August favoured development of Hessian fly [Cecidomyia destructor], frit fly [Oscinella frit], green-eyed fly [Chlorops pumilionis] and Carabidae beetles on cereals. Early appearance of Entomophthora gave good control of locusts. Information is included on development of insect pests and diseases on vegetable crops and in orchards. American white moth [Hyphantria cunea] has reappeared in big numbers in forest shelterbelts and other perennial plantations after a break of 10-12 years.
