Primary alveolar hydatidosis in the liver and secondary cysts in the lungs, brain and other organs were diagnosed in 23 out of 24 patients investigated for suspected tuberculosis or cerebral metastases and tumours. 3 cases had no liver cysts. X-ray examination showed homogeneous, smooth, well defined subpleural nodes in the middle and lower right lung, some in states of decomposition (13 cases), a large cavity with some fluid (2 cases), an irregular homogeneous ill-defined shadow at the base of the right lung, merging into the diaphragm (2 cases) or a generalised dissemination of focal shadows of varied size and intensity (3 cases); in 4 cases there were no pulmonary changes detected by X-ray. Eosinophilia (6 to 62%) was found in 6 cases, increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate (19 to 68 mm/hour) in 20 cases and leucocytosis in 10 cases. The Cassoni test was weakly positive in 2 of 7 patients.
