Oral candidiasis in infants with diarrhea

Of 81 infants with diarrhoea, 42 had buccal candidiasis. These had more frequently been breast fed and had significantly lower IgG immunoglobulin levels in their serum than had the group without candidiasis. The C. species most frequently isolated were C. albicans (62% of those with candidiasis, 44% of those without), C. sp. (21.4, 10.3), C. tropicalis (2.4; 5.6), C. pseudotropicalis (0, 2.6) and C. stellatoidea (2.3, 0). In many cases no C. was isolated.
