Eighteen highly trained distance runners were run to exhaustion on a treadmill on two occasions two weeks apart. Diet and training were kept constant. Nine subjects consumed one gram of pantothenic acid (10,000% USDA RDA) per day while the nine control runners took a placebo in a double blind protocol. Nn statistically significant differences were found between both groups in run time, pulse rate, blood cortisol, glucose levels or any other blood parameters. It is concluded that pantothenic acid in pharmacologic dosage has no significant effect on human exercise capacity.
