A study was conducted to evaluate the validity of bioimpedance analysis (BIA) and to develop population-specific prediction equation for obese women [Czech Republic, date not given]. Relative body fat (BF) was measured in 63 obese women, using 3 method: tetrapolar BIA, bipedal BIA, and dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Significant differences were found among mean values of %BF using the above methods. These were 39.9%, 42.2% and 48.7%, respectively. Significant correlation between results obtained by tetrapolar BIA and by DEXA method was also observed (R=0.73). New specific prediction equation was developed for measuring %BF of obese women by tetrapolar BIA. No good agreement was found between bipedal BIA and DEXA method. Results show that by using the new prediction equation, measurement of the relative BF in obese women by tetrapolar BIA was comparable with the reference DEXA method.
