Developing a philosophy is an excellent way to begin a dental career. Many dentists reading this column already are well into practice and may have developed a philosophy without realizing it. It is important to reflect on that philosophy and even write it down to clarify the direction you would like your practice to take. Our experience in consulting to more than 7,500 practices has shown that many dentists completely change the direction and vision for their practice when the philosophy is clearly established and documented. This change often gives these dentists greater profitability and the opportunity to retire at an earlier age.
