The ultrastructural examination of the skin plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of some connective tissue diseases with vascular manifestations, including Marfan's syndrome, pseudoxanthoma elasticum, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome of the vascular type, and spontaneous cervico-cerebral artery dissections. We present a synopsis of the most representative aspects.
