Effect of melengestrol acetate on pituitary prolactin and hypothalamic prolactin-inhibiting factor

Injection of 50 micro g melengestrol acetate (MGA)/day for 30 days did not alter hypophysial prolactin concn. or hypothalamic prolactin-inhibiting factor (PIF) in intact or ovariectomized rats. Administration of 1 micro g oestradiol-17 beta to ovariectomized rats enhanced pituitary prolactin and reduced hypothalamic PIF.
