Our experience with 283 examined Dupuytren hands in 192 patients of which 186 hands in 153 patients were operated is reviewed. The age and sex distribution, the uni- and bilaterality, and the frequency with which the different fingers were affected are reviewed in the examined patients. Of the 186 operations for Dupuytren hands, five were minor operations. In 7 cases a transverse McIndoe type incision was used. In 55 hands a longitudinal incision, either in zig zag or a straight incision broken up by Z plasties with wide skin undermining (Littler type operation), was used. In 119 hands transverse and longitudinal incisions with limited skin undermining (Skoog type operation) were used. These last two series are compared concerning the functional result obtained and the complications encountered. The functional results are equivalent in both series, but there were less complications with the SKOOG technique. This technique is therefore recommended especially for use in a teaching program.
