Male weanling Sprague-Dawley ats were given a choice between an imbalanced diet of 7.8% amino acid mixture deficient in tryptophan and 8% casein adequate in niacin on the one hand, and a protein-free diet on the other. The imbalanced diet was consistently rejected in favour of the protein-free diet.
