The nurses who marched in Washington should be commended for their dedication, their spirit and their integrity. The organizers of the march and speakers on the Capitol steps, including Laura Vonfrolio, editor of Revolution: The Journal of Nursing Empowerment, along with co-sponsors including ANA, DCNA, the California Nurses Association, and several health care unions, offered words of unity to the crowd. They announced that this rally was just the beginning. The second wave is sure to come. It was clear to everyone that this action was motivated by nursing's duty to serve the public, and that patient advocacy means political activism. "Nursing is the last bastion of patient advocacy..."
