Infusion of sodium pentobarbital into the lateral and the ventral areas of the hypothalamus inhibited or increased food intake respectively. This is consistent with the existence of 'satiety' and 'feeding' centres in pigs. Neither glucose implantation nor infusion into the ventromedial area of the hypothalamus nor peripheral glucose infusions altered the daily food intake of hungry pigs.
