Mycetoma: in search of a mycete

The case is reported of a 16-yr-old white male who had suffered a compound fracture of the left leg in the San Joaquin Valley, Calif., in 1963; following another accident in 1966 an ulcer developed at the site. Treatment with antibiotics and surgery resulted in healing but the ulceration recurred. Various antibiotics were given, but a large granulomatous mass with multiple draining sinuses developed on the left ankle.
