Mycetoma of the foot; a disease from the tropics

Cases are reported in a 50-yr-old man and a 56-yr-old woman, both originally from Surinam, who presented with mycetoma of the foot, 30 and 28 yr, respectively, after local injury. Pathological examination revealed an aspecific chronic granulomatous inflammation. Fusarium sp. and Chrysosporium normodendrum were cultured, respectively. Both patients were treated by curettage of fistulous ducts and itraconazole therapy.
