This paper reviews the biology and life cycles of oxyurid parasites of laboratory rodents (rats, mice, gerbils and hamsters) including Syphacia obvelata, S. muris, S. mesocricetus, Aspiculuris tetraptera and Dentostomella translucida, mechanisms of action and potential adverse effects of commonly used treatments and treatment modalities, both historical and recent.
