The effect of Alkanna tinctoria Tausch on burn wound healing in rabbits

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Alkanna tinctoria [Alkanna tuberculata] on the healing of different types of experimental burn wounds in rabbits. A total of 18 adult rabbits were used and divided into three groups, depending on the burn type: partial thickness burn, severe burn and olive oil burn. The burned left side of the rabbits was used for the treatment with A. tinctoria, whereas the burned right side was used as control. A. tinctoria was applied for 3, 5, 7 and 10 days in partial thickness burn wounds, whereas in severe and olive oil burn wounds, A. tinctoria was used until complete healing occurred. The results showed that 16% solution of A. tinctoria accelerates partial thickness burn wound and olive oil burn wound healing. On the other hand, almost no difference was observed in the healing of control and severe burn wounds.
