The design and available results of randomized colorectal cancer intervention trials with fibre or calcium supplementation are reviewed. Available data do not support a protective effect of fibre supplementation with wheat bran or mucilagenous substances against adenoma recurrence, and even suggest that these substances can have a deleterious effect.
