Diterpenoid alkaloids from Delphinium virgatum poiret

Four known diterpenoid alkaloids (davisinol, hetisinone, hetisine and atisine), two known norditerpenoid alkaloids (peregrine and peregrine alcohol) together with a new norditerpenoid alkaloid, N-deethyl-peregrine alcohol, were isolated from powdered aerial parts of D. virgatum, an endemic plant growing only in Turkey, by vacuum liquid chromatography, centrifugally accelerated radial thin layer chromatography (TLC) and PTLC. The treatment of peregrine alcohol with potassium permanganate in aqueous solution yielded N-deethyl-peregrine alcohol, with identical TLC and and 1H NMR spectra as the new compound. This is the first report on the investigation of alkaloids from D. virgatum.
