Hematoxylin-DMSO mixture as an anti-tumor agent in mice

1. Lymphosarcoma, lymphatic leukemia, anaplastic carcinoma, and melanoma transferred into inbred mice were treated by oral dosings of hematoxylin-DMSO and toluidine blue solutions. No effect on tumor size or mean survival time was noted when compared with control animals. 2. Numbers of absorption peaks from hematoxylin solutions were found to vary depending upon the solvent used. The chemical was least stable in alkaline solutions. 3. The hematoxylin solution used in treatment of mouse tumors in these studies had three absorption peaks, 294, 458, and 606 mu X.
