Repair of oxidized DNA by the flavonoid myricetin

This article describes analytical techniques used to investigate the genoprotective effect of the flavonoid myricetin in rat hepatocyte cultures. It is concluded that the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technique described here can be applied to evaluate oxidized base products of DNA. However, these experiments require some precautions to prevent artifactual oxidation of DNA during extraction and derivatization. HPLC do not require such sample preparation and therefore reduce the risk of artifactual DNA oxidation.
