In 1999, 32 cases of malaria were registered in Poland. All of them were imported, mainly from Africa (n=25). Plasmodium falciparum infection was confirmed in 20 cases. Among the 32 malaria cases, 26 were men and within the 20-49 age group. 10 persons travelled on business and 9 as tourists. One case involving a 51-year-old man, died due to myocarditis complicating malaria.
