The objective of this research study was twofold: (1) to illustrate some of the varying ways in which processes of family life in Venezuela evolve and interact with television; and (2) to emphasize the importance that telenovelas (soap operas) have in the everyday life of Venezuelan television audiences. 13 families living in Caracas were surveyed; they were from various social classes, included at least 2 children, and viewed television as a daily family activity. At the beginning of the analysis of each major theme, some theoretical references are made and illustrated. Family photographs and other documents are used to help substantiate the analysis.
