A prospective study was conducted at the paediatric unit of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Sri Lanka during 1999 to investigate the clinical, laboratory, radiological and serological diagnosis of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF). 38 of 51 suspected cases had laboratory evidence of DHF and 13 had non-haemorrhagic dengue fever (NHDF). The symptoms of DHF and NHDF are tabulated.
