The current status of human filariasis (Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi) in Pakistan and neighbouring countries is briefly reviewed with particular reference to the risk of imported infections brought in by immigrant workers leading to increased disease transmission. The need for epidemiological surveys is highlighted.
