The increased use of phosphatic fertilizers can contribute significantly to the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers which are widely used in Pakistan and increase crop production. Phosphatic fertilizers are mostly imported, either as finished products or as phosphate rock. The possibilities of greater reliance on domestic resources have now been opened up by the completion of characterization and measurement of the Hazara phosphorites. Many product choices are precluded by the small reserves, scattered locations and impurities of these phosphorites. Small size single superphosphate plants appear to be the simplest choice, though not the most profitable, for the use of these phosphate deposits. This, as well as other feasible process choices, are examined in this report, from the point of view of nutrient concentration as well as transport economics.
