Raghavan reviews the history of filarial infections in India and discusses factors affecting the filariae, their vectors and the human reservoir of infection. Both Wuchereria bancrofti and W. malayi show nocturnal periodicity. The principal vector of W. bancroftiis Culex fatigans', Anopheles philippinemis and A. stephensi can also carry the infection; but no species of Aedes has been found infected. Mansonia annulifera and M. uniformis are the principal vectors of W. malayi.
